About United Community Indicators

GiveWell Community Foundation and United Way of Central Florida have partnered to understand the needs of residents of Hardee, Highlands and Polk counties. This website is intended to display key data and insights on community needs and challenges in the tri-county area. The information displayed in this website includes the original United Community Needs Assessment report data, as well as updated government statistics, and further focus group input collected by third party community organizations. This dashboard is designed to be interactive for the user.

We are proud to present this dashboard as a continuously updated, comprehensive study of needs in Hardee, Highlands, and Polk counties as we work together to improve our community.

How to Use This Website

The United Community Indicators website is your go-to resource for exploring data and trends that reflect the well-being of our community. This section will help you understand how to navigate the site, find the information you’re looking for, and use our tools to explore six key domains across Hardee, Highlands, and Polk counties. Whether you’re a resident, researcher, policymaker, or just curious, we’ve made it easy to get started.

While this website is accessible on mobile devices and tablets, we recommend using a desktop browser for the best experience. Some features — including interactive charts, maps, and data tools — are optimized for larger screens and may not fully display on smaller devices.

The United Community Indicators (UCI) website allows you to explore key data and insights for each of the three counties across six specific domains: economy & employment, education, food security, housing, quality of life, transportation & infrastructure. To get started, use the Dashboards link located in the navigation menu found in the header and footer of each page of this website. From there, you can easily navigate to a specific domain or county “snapshot” page, which includes population and demographic data along with links to each domain for that county.

In the navigation menu of this website, you will also find several other helpful links, including In the News, Get Involved, and Resources. On the In the News page, you will find the latest updates from the Insight Polk series, a collaborative pilot project with LkldNow, and links to media coverage of the United Community Indicators. Under Get Involved, you will find tools to help you get involved and take action in your community, including ways to connect with with the UCI team, request a presentation of our findings, support the UCI project with a donation, and opportunities to volunteer. Under Resources, you will find links to community organizations and programs who make a difference in our community across these six domains.
